This blog has been produced to document my promotional package for my horror trailer and the trailer itself. It also includes all of my research and planning into the project, in order for the trailer to appeal to my chosen target audience. Enjoy!

Original Brief

For my A2 Media Studies Coursework, I have been set the task of producing a promotional package for a new film. Along with this, I have been contacted to produce a film trailer and also create a Film Magazine and Film Poster which would be my ancillary tasks. I have developed this blog to document the entire process of my research and planning as well as providing evidence of my thoughts and challenges towards each of the criteria.
In order to complete this task I will:

  • Begin brainstorming various ideas for; film names, setting, narrative, hair and costume etc
  • Determine who my target audience is, which will allow me to create a structure and criteria in which to follow in order for my trailer to be successful
  • Start to brainstorm initial ideas for poster and magazine front cover
  • Construct a presentation pitching my ideas for my film trailer, including the narrative, history of my chosen genre, settings, and possible film titles
  • Delve into the history of my chosen sub-genre, choosing films which have inspired me the most
  • Analyse existing media texts (Film trailers, Posters and magazine front covers)
  • Research Directors and work out which would be best suited to my film
  • Explore and analyse ideas for costume, hair and make-up/ location ideas/ use of camera and editing/ lighting.
  • Carry out surveys and questionnaires which will allow me to gain a better understanding of what appeals to my target audience
  • Take shots of settings, characters, potential scenes and screen shots of inspired films
  • Research what type of character to use, number of people, male:female ratio, age etc
  • Produce shooting schedules and a storyboard for the film trailer.
  • Produce mock-ups for the ancillary tasks.
  • Carry out and construct a post production questionnaire for a specific focus group.

I feel confident and moticated to produce what I hope will be my most create and successful peice of work yet. I want to add my own creative element to the project, choosing features which will not only appeal to my target audience but will also look professional and eye-catching. I want to be able to delve into my creative process of thought while also developing other talents useful for media such as using various forms cameras, equipment and programmes. I will need to be able to overcome my fear of horror films as there will be alot of analysing of existing media texts such as trailers, but I am confident that I will develop a love of the genre. It is not my first time using Adobe Photoshop but I feel that especially in the tasks ahead I will be able to gain a greater understanding of the programme whilst also developing new technological skills in areas such as movie maker and Adobe Premier Pro.
