My Pitch

This is my pitch for the narrative of my film trailer which I presented to my media class before I conducted my research into existing media texts. I am glad to say that it went very well and I recieved incredibly positive comments from both my teacher and classmates.

Film Trailer Narrative

The trailer begins with a static television break which lasts a period of two seconds to prepare the audience that this is 'found footage' and that some of the tapes might have been tampered with. A medium shot of the director Larry shows him introducing the documentary and the setting in which they are filming in, New Court Halls. A strapline that reads '15 years of Investigation' appears before footage of the University. It looks tranquil and peaceful, a safe haven for any student, but fans of horror films know that it will not be the case. Non digetic sounds of police radios and photographers help establish the 'flashback' scene which shows the protagonist Katie walking into her student halls for the first time looking apprehensive and nervous. This then cuts to a close of her face which is full of despair and worry. The camera then follows her into her bedroom which pans to a sign on her door which reads 'Katie Collins'.

The audience is then presented with the scene in which Katie introduces herself to her roommate but to her confusion the girl is cold and rude and walks away before saying anything, this is shown through an over the shoulder shot to show Katies point of view. A couple of medium shots show Katie and the roommate at breakfast, to much of the disgust of the roommate Katie has just returned in the early hours of the morning from a freshers week party upon which she drank a very large amount of alchol. Un-characterically she offers to make Katie some tea, which then shows a close-up of a sachet of some sort of drug/poison in the hand of the roommate. She then pours it into the tea made for Katie and places it on the kitchen table. Dark undertones of the soundtrack help establish the tension in the scene as Katie drinks the tea and instantly starts to choke. While she runs to the shower to be sick, Katies roommate has a smug, menacing expression on her face while erratic camera shots of Katie are shown. The camera then follows her hand as it slides down the shower glass signalling her death. Throughout this tense scene a non digetic voice over of a tv news announcement into the 15 year anniversay of her death.

The scene then jumps to another tv satic image to represent to move to the present day, with a voiceover of the director Larry reiterating the previous voiceover saying '15 years later my crew and I are here to uncover the death of Katie Collins'. During this 'found footage of the films crews camera shows the grounds of the University and the outside of Katies halls. Fast beat music begins to play as a state of laughter breaks the uneasy tension. Clips of the film crew laughing and having fun in Katies old bedroom are then replaced with several footage shots in nightvision of the Halls with a voiceover of Holly and Claire discussing the rumours of ghosts. A dark shadowy figure of what appears to be a girl slides away from the scene in a long shot camra angle followed by the strapline 'several sightings have been reported, but there has been no doccumented proof'. This is heightened by a very loud stab of sound.

It then cuts to Larry, Joe and Holly having a genral conversation about the weather, when all of a sudden Larry's voice becomes alot louder as he points at the door asking'what is that?!' to which Holly mockingly replies 'theres nothing there'. A strapline breaks to dead silence with the words 'Until now' followed by a female shriek. A tilted camera angle to represent how their plans have all turned upside down shows Larry with his face in his hands yelling, 'What is going on around here?'. At this point Holly and Claire are seen talking in the corridoor unaware that a mysterious shadowy figure is behind the door listening to them. This is shown through a medium close up. Silence errupts as the crew spot a mysterious figure in the corridoor, the camera quickly jolts up to discover a terrifying demon. They are the first to ever capture Katie as a demon on film and a digetic sound of it's skin crawling roar sends the crew into a frenzy.

The montage begins with the strapline 'Experience the horrifying footage......for yourself' amongst a series of clips which shows Holly being tortured, blood handprints on the walls and a petrifying close up of the demons face. Throughout the montage, nails on a chalk board like noises are playing for dramatic effect and to reperesent the excrutiating torture the film crew are suffering.

The montage then comes to a sharp halt as humerous footage of Joe surfaces playing with the camera. Unaware of how it works he then sees the image of the demon behind him and collapses to the floor crawling for safety. The trailer then ends with the title amongst a static tv background with text; 'The Unwanted....25.11.11'.
